Kotryna Temcinaite

My name is Kotryna, I’m the Research Communications Officer at Diabetes UK, so there’s no surprise that my blog posts are all about research! Before I joined Diabetes UK I spent four years in the lab doing cancer research, earning a PhD. I realised I loved talking about science and listening or reading about the achievements of researchers. So here I am with your updates from the science world.

I’d like to see people embracing science, even if the last time they were taught it was in high school. The same stigma doesn’t apply to arts, music, and literature – we’re not afraid to talk about it – and I would very much like for science to be the same. During my spare time I can be spotted in cinemas or in the middle of nowhere on the top of a hill, and from time to time with my hands in a bowl of dough.

If you want to stay more up to date with what’s happening in the Research Team at Diabetes UK, you can also follow us on Twitter @DUK_Research.

And just as a side note - fluffy dogs are the best. Try this as a Google picture search term on a bad day.

Talking about Type 2 and genes in a pub – by Kotryna Temcinaite

It’s Diabetes Week 11-17 June and we want everyone to know diabetes and fight it. And who can deliver the message better than a world-leading scientist at the forefront of diabetes research. So we asked Professor Anna Gloyn to share her views in a SciBar talk (a free and informal science talk in a pub,…

Highlights from DUKPC – what’s new with Type 2? – by Kotryna Temcinaite

You might have seen my blog about the highlights for Type 1 diabetes research presented at the Diabetes UK Professional Conference. But there’s a lot going on with Type 2 as well. There can be lots of different treatment options for people with Type 2 diabetes, so the idea of personalising medicine to give the…

Type 1 diabetes: precision medicine at DUKPC – by Kotryna Temcinaite

I spent last week in Manchester at the Diabetes UK Professional Conference. I saw and heard a huge amount of science over the three days, but the strongest message echoing in the conference talks was that diabetes is not all the same: we need to treat it on case-by-case basis. And we need to move…

Diabetes UK has been funding research for over 80 years, and there’s a lot to celebrate. Including our legacy in supporting the careers of the best diabetes scientists.  We give scientists and healthcare professionals prestigious awards called fellowships, which they can use to further their research and become independent. That’s what our latest session at…
